Family Rafting
How about taking it easy on the river with us this summer?
Things to Remember when looking for an activity provider for your family adventure:
When you have a family or kids are involved, suddenly health and safety and ensuring that you have booked the right adventure experience, all becomes so much more important.
Our no.1 priority at all times, is to keep you safe. So have listed a few things you can check out before commiting to taking your family rafting.
There are a few things that we very much suggest you check with your activity provider, before booking a trip on any activity:
- That the company have FULL public liability insurance and that ALL employees are covered by this. - This means asking if staff are full time and employed directly by the company or if they are just casual workers. It is unlikely that casual staff are covered by the companies public liability insurance.
- All guides should have Swift Water Rescue training and be fully qualified in Outdoor First Aid.
- That the company have an AALA (Adventure Activities Licensing Authority) for the activity that your children are going on. - Schools will always request one, so so should you! The license ensures that the activities all abide by health and safety rules and regulations. They will ensure that all guides are fully qualified and have the required expereinece to run the trip that you and your children are going on.
- Ensure that they have wetsuits and/or equipment to fit your child properly and make sure that they are in good condition. This can be a problem if you are meeting by the river, as they will only be able to bring a small amount of wetsuits and have to guess sizes for everyone. Check that the wetsuits are sterilised on a regular basis and are in good condition. Be aware that if safety equipment looks old, it probably is. Badly maintained equipment does not work after a while.
- Where will you be changing? Will it be in a tent, in a metal tank or worse... in your car.
- All vehicles and transport are fully insured and drivers are licensed to carry you and your family.
- How many other people will be with you on the trip? There is nothing worse than getting out on the water and finding that it is already full of rubber! Or most parents worse nightmare... stag groups!
- Will you have to complete Parental Consent forms? We are horrified at the amount of customers who looked shocked, when we ask them to get parents to complete a parental consent form before they join us. The law see's that if you are sitting next to your kids on the activity, then you are aware of what they are doing, but if they bring a friend, their parent or guardian will have to complete a form beforehand. If you are not asked to complete one, Be afraid... be very afraid!!
Does it matter? It is only when things start to go wrong, that you will really see the difference. We strongly suggest you don`t leave it until then to find out that you are wrong... Nae Limits are proud to say that you have more chance of hurting yourself by tripping over a rock, than because our guides were not on the ball. We are VERY fussy as to who we choose to employ. We only take the best. These guys have had some fierce training and we are pleased to say that there ain`t much that they can`t handle.
With Nae Limits, you know that you will always:
- Have clean, well maintained kit that fits as best as you can get.
- A confident friendly guide, who is more than qualified to take you out on the river.
- Have warm changing rooms, with tea and coffee facilities.
- Transport you from the Nae limits activity centre to the river and back, so no soggy car seats! (We knew you'd like that one Dad!)
- Be part of a small group and NEVER be mixed with any stag groups!
- Have the peace of mind, to book the kids in and run away for 3.5 hours of pure quiet bliss, while they have a whale of a time!!!
"The rafting has been the best part of our holiday yet. The girls have had a wonderful time. They haven`t stopped talking about it and I managed to finish my book."
