From Duckies to Determination
Who could have predicted 25 years ago that a little passion project would grow into one of Scotland’s most recognised adventure centres! Back then, Nae Limits was nothing more than two duckies, two rafts, and a dream, all tucked away in the back of a garage. Days were spent juggling a “real job” with the excitement of filling trips, and nights were often spent washing wetsuits under the stars, a diary tucked under arms, wondering what on earth we’d got ourselves into.
But here we are, 25 seasons later — still family-owned, still fuelled by passion, and still saying there are “Nae Limits” to what’s possible when determination meets adventure.
The Early Days: Chaos and Camaraderie
Our beginnings were far from glamorous, but they were full of character. We tested the new kit the only way we knew how: head-on. One of our most memorable experiments was the infamous first sphere. It rolled far faster than we’d planned, hurtled into a barbed wire fence, and ended its career in a heap of deflated plastic. Lesson learned!
There was also the time we acquired a Log Cabin, then a café with absolutely no experience on how to run them. We had the mysterious disappearance of the red minibus (the less said about that, the better). And of course, the legendary end-of-season parties… let’s just say, the stories aren’t fit for print, but they are part of the tradition that has kept our team bonded through thick and thin.
Milestones Worth Shouting About
Through the years, Nae Limits has had six different premises, each one a step up from the last, each one building towards the adventure centre and café we’re proud to call home today. We’ve weathered two recessions and a pandemic, never taking our foot off the pedal. What kept us going? Pure determination, a lot of passion, and the unwavering belief that people deserve to experience the joy of the outdoors.
We’ve grown from being “that place with the rafts” to a multi-award-winning adventure centre with an accredited training facility. Today, we’re not just helping people discover the thrill of rafting, canyoning, and adventure sports — we’re also training those who are dedicated to protecting and rescuing others in Scotland’s rivers and lochs. That’s an evolution we’re incredibly proud of.
People Power: Our Secret Ingredient
Of course, none of this would have been possible without people. Our staff, past and present, who’ve poured their energy (and often their hearts) into this business. Our loyal customers, who keep coming back season after season, bring friends, families, and entire schools with them. Our community, who’ve supported us, laughed with us, and occasionally rescued us from our own experiments.
The reviews we’ve received over the years have meant the world to us — not just because they’ve kept us top of mind, but because they remind us why we do this. Adventure isn’t just about adrenaline; it’s about connection. It’s about being outside, being alive, and sharing unforgettable moments with the people around you.

These days, Nae Limits has over 65,000 followers on Instagram — an incredible online community that shares our love of the outdoors and keeps the spirit of adventure alive. But no matter how much we’ve grown, we’ve never forgotten our roots. We’re still family-owned, we’re still hands-on, and we’re still fuelled by the same drive that started it all in the back of that garage.
We don’t have any plans to slow down. The next chapter of Nae Limits is already underway, with even more training, more innovation, and (of course) more adventures to share with all of you.
