We know how hard it can be to find something to suit all ages in the family; some are too young to take part, and some are too old (cool) to take part… so these three family favourites are sure to keep the whole family entertained.

Plus… the best bit is… they qualify for our “Family Pass” – Save £25 when you book a minimum of 1 adult + 2 kids (under 12) with promo code; FAMPASS.

White Water Rafting: Minimum Age 6+

White Water Rafting is a great option for families with younger children, as we can cater to children aged 6+ and for groups of up to 40 people – not in one raft, mind you. Exclusive trips are also available.

If you’ve never experienced White Water Rafting before, then this is the trip for you. On this white water rafting trip, you will float, paddle & play your way down the six-mile stretch from Aberfeldy to Grandtully. Experience white water rapids and beautiful Scottish scenery as you enjoy your white water rafting trip down the River Tay!

River Tubing: Minimum Age 6+

River Tubing is another great alternative for families with little ones, promising so much fun for the whole family.

Float down stunning, historic gorges and see Scotland from a different perspective. Feeling brave? Opt for a faster river and test your mettle on the rapids (age 12+)

The best family days out in Scotland might be spent in a big blue inflatable tube! Bounce down the famous Killiecrankie Gorge that bore witness to the famous Jacobite battle and keep your eyes peeled for Peallaidh – the area’s local water guardian.

Gorge Walking: Minimum Age 6+

For little legs looking to try Canyoning, why not try Gorge Walking instead! With a lower difficulty level, kids age 6+ will have the opportunity to explore the gorge by foot, while sliding, crawling and scrambling over the rock faces with their friends and family.

It is no doubt a more challenging adventure, but the buzz is insane, and younger adventurers will leave feeling energised and exhilarated from the experience – a good night’s sleep is definitely guaranteed after this one.

Things to do for families in Scotland this Summer? Nae Limits Outdoor Activities for Teenagers

Canyoning: Minimum Age 12+

Take a day trip to Nae Limits and try your hand at Canyoning. Canyoning is the navigation and exploration of a mountain gorge via a series of waterfalls and pools. It’s an outdoor sport that’s suitable for children age 12+, making it a great choice for families with teenagers!

Our Canyoning Team have over 25 years of experience mapping routes through Perthshire’s most spectacular scenery and will keep you safe while you climb, slide, jump and abseil your way down some of the most breath-taking mountain gorges in Scotland.

We have three Canyoning trips available for children age 12+: Lower Bruar, Upper Bruar and Dollar Canyon.

Quad Biking: Minimum Age 12+

Do your children think that they could drive better than you? Put that talk to the test with our Quad Biking experience! Our quad biking treks are the perfect way to get out into the countryside while staying clear of the crowds and are great for creating happy family memories!

This Quad Biking trek will have you navigating forest tracks through the stunning woods of Dunkeld.  Set within 280 acres of wild Highland Estate, there’s something for everyone on our Dunkeld Quad Biking Trek! This is an experience where rainy days can be part of the fun. Treks are tailored to all abilities and ages, and the bold-hearted are welcome to pit their skill against our forest course.

Bridge Swing: Minimum Age 10+

Available to slightly younger visitors is our Killiecrankie Bridge Swing. Don’t be fooled by its name; this is no leisurely ride. You’ll be harnessed up on our jumping platform, 40 meters from the River Garry.

You’ll then be dropped into a free fall to around 15 meters from the water below before the rope takes the slack, and you’ll accelerate through an arc under the bungee platform where the main anchors are attached.

Make sure you bring your GoPro to capture this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Spectators are also permitted in the nearby viewing platforms and will be able to video you taking the plunge.

Live it up on Loch Tay

Located on the bonny banks of Loch Tay, our friends at Taymouth Marina provide a range of watersport activities that you can enjoy with your family and friends.  From canoes & kayaks, to SUP’s, a giant water trampoline and not forgetting Nessie – the giant green pedalo.  Or if you are looking for something a little more relaxing, then you have to try the viral HotBox Spa – this is booked up way in advance, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Hit the Trails on a Bike

Two-wheel adventures are a staple for those living in Perthshire. Mountain biking trails are dotted around the county. Dunkeld is a famous hot-spot, with steep trails giving even the most experienced mountain bikers a challenge, and mellow forest tracks for families to enjoy. This is the ideal activity to tire out those teenagers, whilst parents can match their energy by taking an electric mountain bike for a spin without forfeiting any of the enjoyment. There are many hire companies; check out Progression Bikes for expert guidance and hire.

Take a Wild Swim

Perthshire is littered with lochs, pools, and waterways. Wild swimming has taken off in a big way here, and it is a perfect way to explore local areas, cool off or get some exercise in.  Loch Faskally, which is just a short walk from the centre of Pitlochry, has easy access and little loch beaches, all perfect for a quick dip. There are so many places to visit to satisfy your wild swimming bug in Perthshire; check out The Salty Sea Sister’s incredibly cool maps and advice when seeking out your next outdoor pool.

Stand Up and Paddle Board

Everyone seems to know about Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, or SUPS for short – but did you know that Highland Perthshire has limitless places to strap up and paddle your way into the wilderness? Many of the Lochs have easy access for vehicles, making it easy to park up, pump up and go. A personal favourite of ours is Loch Tummel. This long, shallow loch is the perfect SUP spot; paddle your way around little islands and take in the “Big Tree Country.”  If you’re looking for expert guidance, kit and SUP experiences, check out our friends at Beyond Adventure.

Hopefully this has given you a few ideas to add to the “Things to do for families in Scotland this Summer” list.  Whatever you choose, you are guaranteed to find lots of fun and adventure here in Highland Perthshire.
