During your safety briefing at Nae Limits that is carried out prior to your activity, we will teach you all about the equipment you will need to use in order to carry out your Canyoning experience. Some of this equipment is for your safety while other items are provided to allow you to navigate the gorge properly and carefully.

The activity of Canyoning involves a combination of hiking, swimming, rappelling, abseiling and other skills, so there are several pieces of specialised equipment that are typically used to ensure you have a safe and fun time on your activity. Here are some of the common pieces of equipment used in Canyoning:
- Helmet: A helmet is essential to protect the head from falling rocks, bumps and impacts while canyoning.
- Wetsuit: A wetsuit is used to keep the body warm in cold water and protect it from scratches and abrasions while swimming and sliding through the gorge.
- Canyoning Shoes: These are specialised climbing shoes with good traction and grip, designed for use in wet and slippery environments.
- Harness: A harness is used for rappelling, and it should fit well and be comfortable to wear.
- Rappelling Devices: These are used to control the speed of the descent during rappelling or abseiling.
- Static Ropes: These are used for abseiling and for safely navigating down steep and vertical sections of the waterfalls.
- Carabiners: These are used to connect ropes to the harness or anchor points.
- Backpack: A backpack is used to carry water, food, extra clothing, and other personal items.
- First aid kit: A first aid kit is always recommended to address minor injuries that may occur while canyoning. If you can, make sure you bring an outdoor first aid kit which will include additional safety materials relevant to outdoor injuries like bug stings, thermal sheets, etc.
If you are using your own equipment, ensure it is regularly maintained and cleaned to ensure it works correctly and efficiently on your next trip. Water inside metal components can cause them to rust, so ensure you are allowing your belays and carabiners to dry after each use. Please check with our guides beforehand if you wish to bring your own gear.

Nae Limits have a strict safety protocol with all of our equipment, ensuring it is checked and maintained before every use. Ensure you listen carefully to your safety briefing before your time in the gorge so that you are confident you are using the equipment correctly, and if you have any questions ensure you ask your guide before you depart.
If you have any questions about the equipment that we use at Nae Limits, get in touch by emailing us on info@naelimits.co.uk or calling 01796 482600.
