  • March 29, 2023
  • Matty

All of our guides and instructors go through rigorous training to ensure that every group we take out White Water Rafting are guaranteed a safe and fun time. There are a number of training programs and qualifications we provide to our instructors to ensure their knowledge is continuously being improved and expanded upon and are up to date with the latest safety developments.

Child Protection Training and PVG Checks

The first training and checks that we carry out with every member of the Nae Limits’ team are those involving working with children. We offer experiences to families with children aged six or older, and our café is open to the public, meaning we are quite often working with young people. PVG checks are carried out on anyone that applies for a role at Nae Limits, and Child Protection Training is provided to ensure anyone visiting Nae Limits is kept safe and enjoys their time with us.

First Aid Outdoors

Our guides are required to take part in regular Outdoor First Aid Training to ensure they can provide immediate care to anyone that sustains an injury while taking part in any Nae Limits activity. This can include caring for cuts and burns, hypothermia or heat exhaustion, asthma attacks, bites and stings, and ensuring that any casualty is put in the safest position for the arrival of a medical team should more serious injuries occur.

White Water Rescue Technician

The Whitewater Rescue Technician Instructor pathway is designed for river professionals and outdoor instructors that provide White Water Rafting experiences and other water sports excursions. It is designed for teaching white water rescue techniques to ensure those taking part are always kept safe. Some of the essential training provided includes:

  • Training standards
  • Best practice guidelines
  • River hydrology and hazards
  • Personal equipment
  • River running considerations
  • Assessing risk
  • Communications
  • Strainer considerations
  • Boat wrap/pin considerations
  • Whitewater swimming techniques
  • Conditional rescues – throwbags
  • Introduction to shallow water techniques
  • Foot/body entrapments
  • Flips/rights and self-rescue

SRA Raft Guide Level 3

Our guides are required to take part in the 6 Day Raft Guide Training Course which is designed to provide a fundamental introduction to the skills and techniques required to safely guide rafts on rivers. The Raft Guide Certification will normally be attained following completion of the 6-day RGTC then, where necessary, gaining subsequent rafting experience plus a technical (white water safety & rescue) and practical (raft guiding skills) assessment. SRA Raft Guides qualifications will be listed with the grade of water applicable to their successful assessment. For Nae Limits, all of our instructors can provide Grade III river experiences.

IRF Certifications

The IRF Certificate is for rafting guides and white water rafting excursion providers that are already certified guides who wish to recycle or deepen their knowledge of white water safety and navigation and obtain internationally recognised diplomas allowing them to work abroad.

A group of ten senior soldiers went canyoning as part of a team-building exercise. Considering that some of those attending had been in the army for 30+ years, we needed something that would stretch us as we have conducted adventure activities all over the world. This experience was amazing, something none of us had done before and it hit the mark.

Upper Bruar Canyoning was amazing. We went as a family, not for the faint-hearted but safe as houses! We all had the best time but chickened out of the 10m jump. The 6m jump was soo much fun as was the abseiling. Thank you!!

Really great day out, we did white water tubing and it was so much fun. Beautiful scenery, got properly wet and cold and finished with some cliff jumping. Guides were just great, very laid back and funny, but clearly watching safety issues all the time, and super helpful with anyone who was struggling.

I booked a Stag weekend with Nae Limits for 14 guys. The team at Nae Limits were excellent the whole way through, from planning and advising on activities beforehand, right through to the weekend itself. The activity team were excellent and had everything on hand for us on the day. The whole group commented on how great the weekend had been, and we can't thank the team enough!
