Canyoning is one of Nae Limits most popular activities, along with White Water Rafting and River Tubing. On the nearby Falls of Bruar, our Canyoning activities involve big slides and splashes as you navigate one of Perthshire’s most beautiful waterfalls. But what actually is Canyoning, and is it the activity for me? Read on to find out more..

The Nae Limits Definition of Canyoning
Canyoning, also sometimes known as Canyoneering, is the navigation and exploration of a mountain gorge via a series of waterfalls and pools. It’s an outdoor sport that’s suitable for every age and ability as long as you are brave enough to take the plunge.
The canyon in question is really a natural gorge that has been carved out of the side of a mountain by strong water currents from rivers or streams. This can create deep crevice’s within the rock leading to steep declines and even waterfalls! These waterfalls If carved out smoothly enough form natural toboggans or, as the everyday man may call them, slides into the pooling water below.
A number of different techniques are used in Canyoning and these can include abseiling, rapelling, rock climbing and bouldering, hiking, swimming, sliding and jumping. When canyoning you can reach points along the mountain face and in the water that usually could not be explored from the land. This means you can have exclusive access to some of the most magical pools and waterfalls that many do not know the location of.
Canyoning difficulty ranges depending on the route you take, it’s location and the time of year you choose to take part in your expedition. In the summer months when the water level is lower, there are more opportunities for sliding and climbing along the gorge, where as in the cooler months when the water level is higher, you can expect to take part in more cliff jumping and swimming.
