What Should I Wear To Go Canyoning?

We know you can’t wait to get your harness on and tackle the gorge, but before you begin your Canyoning activity, you need to make sure you’ve brought the right clobber to best enjoy your experience without any hinderance from your clothing.

All safety equipment required for your trip including wetsuits, helmets and harnesses will be provided and fitted by Nae Limits to ensure your safety in the gorge, but it is important to keep in mind the clothing and footwear you should bring to ensure you have the best time possible.

Arrival Clothing

The key to getting the most time in the water is to bring clothing that is quick to change in and out of and is suitably cosy and comfy after you exit the cool Scottish water. Hoodies, jogging bottoms, tracksuits, leggings and light t-shirts are all great options. A personal favourite addition to this ensemble is a pair of thick cosy socks and your most comfortable trainers – fashion is not required here!

One other top tip is to come with your swimwear underneath your outer layers for a super quick change into your wetsuits – just don’t forget your underwear for the trip home!

Swimwear

For every Canyoning trip we feel that having comfortable swimwear is the best option for underneath your wetsuits. Rash vests or synthetic t-shirts are also good options as they are quick drying and wont bulk up your suit.

Ensure that any swimwear worn is appropriate for outdoor activities – this means no loose hanging strings or toggles where possible, and preferably no complicated designs that is going to be time consuming changing in and out of. A simple one piece or a pair of shorts is completely fine and will allow you to have the maximum amount of time in the water and not just getting changed!

Shoes

We always recommending bringing an old pair of trainers for any activity at Nae Limits. You want your comfiest, most well worn pair that you don’t mind getting a little grubby or wet.

Please also keep in mind that the gorge can be slippery! Where possible try and bring trainers that have good grip and have flexible soles that will aid you in climbing through the gorge. Stiff trainers with slippery soles are not the ideal choice for a Canyoning trip.

Towels and Dry Bags

Make sure you bring a towel with you to dry off with after your activity, and a bag to carry all of your clothing and personal items, which will be stored safely at Nae Limits HQ. If you are wearing your swimsuit to the activity under your clothes, please remember to bring some underwear to change into for the journey home – we have a strict no streakers policy here at Nae Limits!

Safety Equipment Provided by Nae Limits

Nae Limits have a large supply of Canyoning equipment to fit every shape and size. We provide and fit all of your equipment before you depart into the canyon, and also deliver a safety briefing to ensure you are using any equipment correctly and confidently.

To take part in a Canyoning activity we will provide you with:

  • Wetsuits
  • Harnesses
  • Helmets
  • Life Jackets
  • Your Ropes, Belays and Carabiners

A group of ten senior soldiers went canyoning as part of a team-building exercise. Considering that some of those attending had been in the army for 30+ years, we needed something that would stretch us as we have conducted adventure activities all over the world. This experience was amazing, something none of us had done before and it hit the mark.

Upper Bruar Canyoning was amazing. We went as a family, not for the faint-hearted but safe as houses! We all had the best time but chickened out of the 10m jump. The 6m jump was soo much fun as was the abseiling. Thank you!!

Really great day out, we did white water tubing and it was so much fun. Beautiful scenery, got properly wet and cold and finished with some cliff jumping. Guides were just great, very laid back and funny, but clearly watching safety issues all the time, and super helpful with anyone who was struggling.
great day out for families

I booked a Stag weekend with Nae Limits for 14 guys. The team at Nae Limits were excellent the whole way through, from planning and advising on activities beforehand, right through to the weekend itself. The activity team were excellent and had everything on hand for us on the day. The whole group commented on how great the weekend had been, and we can't thank the team enough!
